Winner in 1997 and 2000 also, Carmen has
been named Canada's Commercial Photographer of the Year for the third
time!
She is the first woman ever to win the national
title and three times named Photographer of the Year for BC as well. Winner of two
Fuji Masterpiece Awards, one Nikon Excellence Award and nine Kodak Gallery
Awards, Carmen was named Kodak BC Photographer of the Year in 1996 and 2004.
Photographers' associations have also given her
Bests in numerous categories -- Photographic Illustration, Portrait of a Woman,
a Man, an Animal, Wedding Portrait, Digital, Industrial, Unclassified, Pictorial,
Restoration, Retouching, Portrait Enhancement--along with numerous Judges' Choice awards.
Carmen's sensitivity and technical expertise
with photographs has brought amazing diversity to
her work. Randy Bachman, for example, commissioned her 1995 restoration of B&W
photographs of jazz great Lenny Breau, while in 2001 she was commissioned to photograph a
statue believed to be sculpted by Leonardo da Vinci. Her photographs proved the statue's
authenticity.
Carmen studied at Vancouver's
Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design
and has been recognized for her
experimental techniques on Polaroids, B & W's and inventive screens. Carmen's artistic
eye enables her to impart Renaissance, Gothic and Impressionist ambience to her photography,
creating works of art that capture a person's or a moment's uniqueness forever.
Born in Portugal, Carmen has
worked out of Langley, BC, for the past 10 years, doing Fine Art Gallery images
, illustration, fine art portraits,
fine art weddings and stock. Her freelance work has taken her across Canada, as well as to
Europe and America. She's done commissions for magazines like Chatelaine, Harrowsmith and
Gardens West, as well as for a number of international recording artists illustrating for
CDs, DVDs, books, cards, posters, etc. Her Fine Art Images may be purchased through
