Penny Lewin was born in Kew, Melbourne and spent most of her childhood growing up in Box Hill
South and later moved to Geelong in 1989 with her mother Sue Lewin.
It was in 1993 that Lewin first studied Art and Design at Box Hill College of TAFE where she
spent two years majoring in printmaking and minoring in painting. After the completion of her
advanced certificate course, she studied the visual arts further at RMIT in 1995-1997 where
she did a double degree in painting and printmaking.
After she finished her studies with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Lewin began to work for
Karingallery in 2000. It was here she assisted disabled adults with various art projects, such
as papier mache animals and bowls, works on paper and other community art projects.
It was in 2001 that Lewin began her postgraduate studies in teaching, completing Bachelor of
Teaching (primary and secondary) in 2006. During the time she was completing her teaching
degree, she was accepted to be one of many sculptors for the Artist in the Gardens sculpture
park in the Geelong Botanical Gardens in 2004.
Currently Lewin works in education teaching and assisting students to explore their artistic
concepts, extending their knowledge in art materials and achieving a finished artwork.
