Born in Fredericton New Brunswick in 1960, Sam Boehner moved to the west coast in 1992. After
finishing a degree in Biology at the University of Victoria and a lengthy career in fisheries
management Sam began painting in late 2007. This newfound passion was a way into
self-discovery and relaxation.
Watercolour has always attracted Sam, not simply for its beauty, but also for the challenge
of working with a medium that so many artists consider "uncontrollable". Sam has
studied the watercolour medium since September 2007 with Leslie Redhead and has also
participated in Greg Swainsons watercolour classes since early 2009.
Serious artists have inspired Sam to paint regularly and say that some people are born
artists but most of us have to practice, practice, practice. Sam tries to paint or draw
something daily to enhance the talent that already exists.
The love of all things natural, especially the outdoors, Sam's garden, and the sea inspire
paintings. Sam has recently taken an interest in portraiture and oils and has taken up this
medium with ease.
Sam Boehner's works are included in private collections from Nova Scotia to British Columbia,
and as far away as Guatemala and Tanzania, Africa.
