Canadian artist, Melissa Jean, was born in South-eastern Manitoba in 1975. Her childhood was
spent living in both Alberta and Manitoba. Expressing herself through drawing was always a
part of her. Sensing the creativity in her granddaughter, artist 'Oma Jean' took it upon
herself to show her ways to mix oil paint, turpentine, and linseed oil, at an early age.
Melissa fell in love with the new medium. Thus began years of self instruction, discovery, and
expression with oil paint.
Life was movement for Melissa. For the next 10 years, she travelled extensively throughout
the world and across Canada, and always painted what she saw. After starting a family, she
settled down in Kenora, Ontario. It was at this point that Melissa found the time to
concentrate on her art career. An explosion of inspiration took over and the appreciation of
the Canadian landscape and images she kept close to her heart over the years poured out onto
canvas.
She is pleased that she can share her appreciation for the simple things we Canadians see
every day. Through her unique perspective of trees, lakes and prairies, she inspires Canadians
to love the land were with.
Today, her art can be found in collections throughout Canada, the United States and in
Europe.
