Okanagan artist, exploring boundaries of development and nature's reclaiming process. "
When I lived deep in the cities of Montreal and Vancouver it was rare to see the tangle of
development and nature. I heard about it everyday, but it was like a rumour. "
River draws landscape and abstract ink through meditative memory recall. As a BC and Okanagan
artist, many drawings and paintings begin on location through sketching and photography. The
final work represents the artist's inner space, connection and empathy for an environment,
rather than a literal depiction.
River Lewis has exhibited artworks across the British Columbia Mainland in
venues including Surrey Art Gallery, Chilliwack Arts Centre and smaller art venues and events.
Having just become involved in the Artist Trading Card movement with the Richmond Art Gallery,
this promises to be a very exciting artistic endeavour in many ways both socially and
creatively. As an okanagan artist, River enjoys capturing the natural scenery in this BC
region producing paintings and drawings that interpret the complex skies and landscape in
Vernon BC and the North Okanagan in particular. These Okanagan scenic artworks are mainly oil
paintings, graphite, coloured pencil, acrylic ink drawings, and make lyrical and technical
study for larger Canadian contemporary art work. Current themes addressed in River Lewis'
contemporary work include the accuracies and inaccuracies of interpersonal perception.
