Over the last 5 years, Sheena has learned a lot about her trade, as well as her
cameras, and has grown in both her interest in photography, as well as her curiosity in trying
other methods of image-capture. Having gone fully digital for a few years, she has since
stepped back and broadened her horizons to include not only the 35 mm format she first learned
in school, but also 6x7 format on a Bronica GS-1 (currently her favorite). She is also
experimenting with a 120 and a modified 35 mm Holga, as well as an old-school Diana toy
camera that is pretty much the most versatile cheap plastic camera on the market. In addition
to shooting mainly on film, Sheena also plays with cyanotyping, image and emulsion transfers,
and her greatest challenge of all, developing an image using painted liquid emulsion.
Although Sheena understands the challenges of working in such a competitive industry as
photography, she tends to shoot primarily for her own interests with hopes that one day she
will be able to make a living off her work. She enjoys what she does, and hopes what she comes
up with in the end is something you will enjoy as much as well. She is currently working in
Calgary in the Web Sales department at The Camera Store, and when she is not there she is out
and about continuing to perfect her art.
