Lyn Lemont Webb was born in Howick near Auckland New Zealand but has lived and worked in
England for many years.
The works are a process of experimentation with materiality, surface and mark making. This
has progressed in 2004 without the intervention of the hand or brush. The work has become an
abstract representation of an energy force, a technical, physical process of the application
of paint on canvas suggestive of, but not necessarily representative of the organic world.
The tension between intention and accident generates a strong, flowing sense of movement
within the gesture and disrupts the phenomenology of what paint is expected to do. The
physicality of the gesture is accentuated by the size of the canvas and the freedom of the
body to create gestural marks similar in size to the artist, referencing the tracing of the
body through time.
