I am an emerging Chicago artist who has been drawing for more than five years. I began
drawing in my first basic art class in my sophomore year of college. After wanting to learn
more about sketching, I decided to take another drawing course and from then on I was
absolutely hooked. The medium that I fell in love with from the start was charcoal. My
favorite subjects are Abstract and Expressionism. I really enjoy both abstraction and
expressionism because they both give an opportunity for me to truly express my emotions and
unleash my imagination. In my pieces, I use a lot of symbols--mostly dealing with the eyes.
Eyes speak. They can tell an interesting story. I use eyes in pieces to tell about a part of
my life. Most of my works are expressions and transformations into my true self letting go the
negativity from within and having the confidence to shine bright. Yet other pieces are quite
whimsical because I might have been testing some brush strokes or testing my level of abstract
thinking and space given to draw. I plan to create on a much larger scale and continue to test
my creativity with different media.
