Expressionism
Expressionism is an art in which the emotions of an artist are paramount and take precedence over a
rational or true to life rendering of subject matter. Expressionist composition and form tend toward
distortion and exaggeration.
Expressionism uses the direct rendering of emotions, feelings and reactions as reason for art.
Expressionism can also be described as a theory or practise in art of seeking to depict not objective
reality but the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse in the artists.
