Figura Serpintina
Figura Serpentina is an Italian term used to charecterise the twisted, convoluted figures of Mannerist sculpture. In this kind of sculpture the forms are arranged spatially in all directions around a vertical axis, thus creating an extraordinarily dynamic, continuous spiral evolution in space. There is little or no suggestion of a plane of reference.
