Mass in painting is any quality in a painting which implies or suggest or emphasises the physical weight. Mass can be solid space and is the opposite of line.

Mass in sculpture is a quantity or aggregate of matter that occupies space, or the principle part or main body of a sculpture. The mass of a sculpture may be made up of a number of volumes joined together to form a complex structure.
