Mobile Sculpture
Forms, such as metal, paper, objects, which are connected by wire or rods. The mobile hangs free and
is set in motion by air or wind. Mobiles are not attached to a base in the traditional and is kind of
kinetic sculpture.
The sculptor Alexander Calder is well known for his mobiles. Calder is credited with inventing the
mobile in 1931, although it was Marcel Duchamp who suggested calling them "mobiles".
