Papiers Collés
Papiers Collés is a technique in art where a picture is made from pieces of paper or
cardboard and glued to a support. Only paper products are used and this differs from collage in which
all sorts of materials are used.
The technique was invented by Braque in 1912 and was almost immediately adopted by Picasso. Gris too
made extensive use of papiers collés, and Matisse's use of cut-out paper shapes in his late
work is a development of the technique.
