Priming
Priming is the term used to describe any method which insulates fibres of canvas or board
from oil or oil pigment. Traditionally priming is a glue or nonoil varnish over which the ground id
applied. Nowadays because acrylic protects the fibre without damaging it, it is common and permissable
to apply severak coats of acrylic paint so that the acts of priming the canvas or board and grounding
the canvas or board are combined.
