Spatial Relations
In contrast to spaces, being portions of space
having a particular form, spatial relations exist in space where space is regarded as a kind of
universal receptacle or matrix. The spatial relations of the components of sculpture are their
relative directions and positions in this receptacle or matrix. They come into being across space
between components that are not physically connected and give rise to tensions between them. They also
exist between components that are physically connected with each other, in which case they give rise
to a movement of the forms in space.
