Support
The support may be wood, canvas, cardboard, a wall, paper, or copper plate, et cetera. It is the surface on which, after priming, the wok is executed. The support is the material on which a painting or other two-dimensional work is executed; in mural painting the support is the wall. Usually a support is prepared with a ground before paint is applied, but in watercolour the paint is used directly on the paper, so support and ground are one and the same.
