Galeria Fortes Vilaça represents the vitality and the quality of contemporary art in Brazil. Devoted to promoting all over the world the work of 21 artists who live in Brazil, the gallery participates in an average of four international art fairs per year. On the other hand, the gallery also emphasizes representing and making known inside Brazil contemporary artists from other parts of the world.
The gallery has two distinct spaces for exhibitions, the main one on the ground floor, and another on the mezzanine. Their schedule includes nine exhibitions a year, with an artist in each of the spaces.
Once a year an independent curator is invited to create a group show. Based on this concept, the gallery is transformed into a space for the interplay of ideas current in the international art circuit, continually presenting new ways of thinking art today.
Galeria Fortes Vilaça is a renewed cultural project, growing out of the concept developed by the late Marcantônio Vilaça and his partner Karla Camargo, who headed Galeria camargo Vilaça in the nineties. Fortes Vilaça occupies the same space as the previous gallery and represents many of the same artists, moving forward with similar ideas and strategies.
