Historical Artist - Bartolomeo Biscaino (1632 - 1657)
His landscape painter father initially trained Bartolomeo Biscaino before he entered Valerio
Castello’s workshop in the later 1640’s. Biscaino’s work was typified by broad
brushstrokes, deliberate and careful color choice, curving drapery, and pleasant expressions.
However, he best known for his etchings and drawings, influenced by Giovanni Benedetto
Castiglione. He was the son, and first a pupil of Giovanni Andrea Biscaino. The Dresden gallery
once held three paintings, representing Woman taken in adultery, Adoration by Magi, and
Circumcision of Christ. He etched several plates, in a style, recalling Giovanni Benedetto
Castiglione.
