Historical Artist - Jacques Daret (1404 - 1468)
Jacques Daret was born in Tournai where he began his career as an apprentice to Robert Campin
in 1428. His main work was an altarpiece for the Abbey of St. Vaast in Arras of which four
panels have survived. He also produced some illuminated manuscripts and tapestry cartoons. He
became a favorite of the Burgundian court, and his patron for 20 years was the abbot of St.
Vaast in Arras, Jean de Clercq.
