Historical Artist - Franois-Hubert Drouais (1727 - 1775)
Francois-Hubert Drouais studied under Boucher before becoming a popular portrait painter in his
native France. As a rival of Nattier, his best works were very similar to those of his teachers.
Drouais was most talented at painting portraits of children. However, his most famous work is
the portrait of Madame de Pompadour that was painted after her death from 1763 to 1764. He
specialized in portraits, some of which include Louis XV's last two mistresses, Madame de
Pompadour and Madame du Barry respectively. He even painted the young Marie Antoinette.
