Historical Artist - Henri Fantin-Latour (1836 - 1904)
Henri Fantin-Latour was a French painter and lithographer who was best known for his flower
paintings. He also painted group portraits, notably Homage to Delacroix, which shows himself,
Baudelaire, Manet, Whistler, and other artists surrounding a portrait of the great artist. His
portraits were traditional in their execution and also had great attention to detail. His later
career was mostly devoted to lithography. He is best known for his flower paintings and group
portraits of his friends Parisian artists and writers. Whistler brought attention to Fantin in
England. In addition to his paintings, Fantin-Latour created ingenious lithographs demonstrating
the music of some of the great classical composers.
