Historical Artist - Joseph Farington (1747 - 1821)
Joseph Farington was a landscape painter and topographical draughtsman. However, he is most
famous for his diary that reveals valuable information about the London art world during the
late 18th and early 19th centuries. The manuscript was first published in sixteen volumes 1978.
He was an active member of the Academy and sat on several important committees, including the
one which determined where artworks would be hung during the exhibitions.
