Historical Artist - Robert Feke (1707 - 1752)
Robert Feke was a Colonial portrait painter who was first recorded in 1741. In that year, he
created a large group portrait in Boston titled Isaac Royall and his Family. He then moved to
Philadelphia, where his last documented work was in 1751. Feke is credited with around 50
portraits, in addition to twelve signed works. His paintings are known for their sobriety and
uniformity, but also for their rich colours and accuracy.Feke worked in Boston, painting wealthy
merchants and landowners, from 1741 until 1750, when he disappeared.
