Historical Artist - Henri Harpignies (1819 - 1916)
Henri Harpignies began painting in 1846 at the age of twenty-seven. He was a prolific and
popular painter, earned a good living and made a name for himself in France. He is sometimes
considered to be a member of the Barbizon School but the influence of Corot is more obvious.
Many of his best works were painted at Hérisson in the central France region of
Bourbonnais, as well as in the Nivernais and Auvergne regions.
